jane eyre: an autobiography

based on the novel by Charlotte Brontë • adapted & composed by Beth Golison

Music director and orchestrator for a new musical adaptation, developed at Playwrights Horizons Theater School in 2019 and 2020.

  • Staged workshop mounted at Playwrights Downtown in December 2019, directed by Kate DiRienzi.

  • Following NYU’s closure due to COVID-19, a 30-minute visual album, created in collaboration with the cast and musicians, was released May 3, 2020.

  • Both songs performed at Goldie and Co.: A Night of New Music at the Duplex on June 3, 2019.

  • ‘Stuck’ performed at NYMF SLP presents: Head and Heart at Signature Theatre on August 3, 2019.

 

The Wizard of Oz (1939)

based on the 1939 MGM film, with music by Harold Arlen & E.Y. Harburg • directed by Alex Bush

Director Alex Bush’s reimagining of this classic story explored changing personal and cultural relationships to its iconography over time. In addition to contributing original music and re-orchestrating several of the songs, I was Associate Musical Director and performed in the ensemble and as a musician in the pit.

  • Performed at the Robert Moss Theatre at Playwrights Horizons Theatre School, April 18-20, 2019. Directed by Alex Bush, musical direction by Declan Zhang, assistant musical direction by Christine Huntsberger.

Originally conceived as a 20-minute musical for Across A Crowded Room, a program for new collaborative theatre run by the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. The program included a workshop with composer/lyricist Georgia Stitt, and the show received its debut reading at Lincoln Center on September 20, 2018.

Silent Knight

Book, music and lyrics by Kyle Brenn. Original production premiered at Crystal Theatre in 2009, with a revised remounting of the show receiving its premiere there in the spring of 2012. Demo recordings were completed over the summer of 2012, with a combined regional and professional cast including actors Bradley Dean (A Little Night Music, The Fantasticks, Dear Evan Hansen), Louis Hobson (Next to Normal, Bonnie & Clyde) and 2-time Tony Award nominee Robin de Jesus (In the Heights, La Cage Aux Folles, Wicked). 

  • All music engineered and mixed by Johnny Montagnese and Ian Callanan at Carriage House Studios in Stamford CT.

  • Selected songs featuring (in order of appearance): Elizabeth Markow, Bradley Dean, Kelly Shannon and Robin de Jesus, as well as Kyle Brenn (piano, keyboards, drums) and Brian D'Addario (electric guitar).
